Prince of Players (NY premiere)

lotny_std_PoP_v10Role:  Thomas Betterton

Ron joins the little OPERA theatre of NY (LOTNY) as Thomas Betterton in the NY stage premiere of Carlisle Floyd’s newest opera Prince of Players.  Having received its world premiere at Houston Grand Opera in March 2016, this will be the NY stage premiere.

Based upon A Compleat Female Stage Beauty by Jeffrey Hatcher and popularized by the 2004 film Stage Beauty starring Billy Crudup and Claire Daines, Prince of Players brings the story of androgynous London Restoration-era actor Edward Kynaston, long idolized for his convincing portrayals of female characters, to the operatic stage.  After a royal decree by King Charles II allowing women on stage and forbidding men to play women, Kynaston finds himself struggling on a tumultuous path to regain happiness on stage and off.
