Recognized for his “consistent vocal ease and dramatic flair,” versatile baritone RON LOYD “delivers above and beyond the call” in repertoire ranging from Verdi to Sondheim.

In 2010, Mr. Loyd debuts with The Collegiate Chorale and The American Symphony Orchestra singing the baritone solos in Handel’s ISRAEL IN EGYPT under the baton of James Bagwell and featuring Sari Gruber, Brian Asawa and Rufus Müller. He also sings the baritone solos in Brahms’ EIN DEUTSCHES REQUIEM for his debut with The Choral Society in New York City; returns to Light Opera Oklahoma as FRED in Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate and as BUNTHORNE in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Patience; and makes his role debut of DULCAMARA in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’Amore as part of Connecticut’s Salt Marsh Opera’s 10th anniversary season.

RON LOYD has previously appeared as SHARPLESS in Madama Butterfly with El Paso Opera, Mobile Opera, and Opera Southwest; PING in Turandot with Mobile Opera and Pensacola Opera, MARCELLO in La Bohème with Opera Southwest; SCHAUNARD in La Bohème with Des Moines Metro Opera, Pensacola Opera and National Lyric Opera; PAPAGENO in Die Zauberflöte with Opera Southwest; and GERMONT in La Traviata with Bronx Opera and the New Operafestival di Roma Symphony in Rome, Italy.

In 2009, Mr. Loyd returned to Light Opera Oklahoma as FREDRIK in A Little Night Music, where The Sondheim Review praised his “opulent baritone and nuanced phrasing,” and as HENRY HIGGINS in My Fair Lady. Of Higgins, Urban Tulsa wrote that “his gorgeous, booming voice was accentuated by fine acting. His portrayal of Higgins as a cantankerous but lovable bachelor was spot-on.” Also in 2009, Mr. Loyd made successful debuts with Connecticut’s Salt Marsh Opera as FALKE in Die Fledermaus and with The Stonington Choral Society as the baritone soloist Handel’s MESSIAH.

Recent engagements also include PETER in Hansel and Gretel with Nevada Opera; PAPAGENO in Die Zauberflöte with Pensacola Opera; the title role of SWEENEY TODD with Light Opera Oklahoma; and his role debut of FIGARO in Le Nozze di Figaro with Opera Southwest (of which The Albuquerque Journal wrote “last season’s MARCELLO in La Bohéme, returns to sing the title role full of zest and physicality. He commands the stage easily and with great animation.”)

On the concert stage, Mr. Loyd has appeared as baritone soloist in Beethoven’s NINTH SYMPHONY with the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra; VIVA VERDI! with the Chautauqua Symphony; Palm Beach Opera’s Music for the Mind concert series; Sarasota Opera’s American Music Concert; Holiday Pops concerts with the Charlotte Symphony (FL) and the Gulf Coast Symphony (FL); and WEST SIDE STORY in Concert with the Fort Worth Symphony. Mr. Loyd joined The Dessoff Choirs in New York City for an exploration of 19th to 20th Century American Works under the direction of James Bagwell and has appeared with the Berkshire Bach Society as the bass soloist in Bach's WEIHNACHTS-ORATORIUM. Additional concert repertoire includes the REQUIEMs of Faure and Mozart; Schubert’s MASS in G and MASS in B flat; and Beethoven’s MASS in C.

Since making his professional operatic debut as HORACE TABOR in The Ballad of Baby Doe with Amarillo Opera, Mr. Loyd has performed in China as FIGARO in Il Barbiere di Siviglia; in Barbados, West Indies as SHARPLESS in Madama Butterfly; and in Italy as PAPAGENO in Die Zauberflöte and GERMONT in La Traviata. Mr. Loyd created the role of GUIDO in the world stage premiere of Un Racconto Fiorentino (Louis Gioia) with New Jersey Verismo Opera and has appeared with Pensacola Opera and Opera Southwest as DON BARTOLO in Il Barbiere di Siviglia; Center City Opera Theater as MELCHIOR in Amahl and the Night Visitors; Opera Iowa and Center City Opera Theater as BELCORE in L’Elisir d’Amore; and Natchez Festival of Music as POOH-BAH in The Mikado, BARON ZETA in The Merry Widow, and TEVYE in Fiddler on the Roof.

After a critically acclaimed debut with Light Opera Oklahoma as EMILE DEBEQUE in South Pacific (garnering “a remarkable performance – his voice warm, resonant, and powerful” by The Tulsa World), Mr. Loyd was immediately invited back to portray Stephen Sondheim's demon barber SWEENEY TODD. Subsequently, The Tulsa World wrote that Mr. Loyd's performance was “electrifying in its intensity” and "stunning in its ferocity" and voted the show as Tulsa’s “Best Night of Theatre” in 2007. Quickly a house favorite for his thoughtful portrayals and versatility, Mr. Loyd was reengaged for the following season as THE PIRATE KING in Pirates of Penzance, CAPTAIN in Candide, and THE BAKER in Sondheim’s Into the Woods where “his warm baritone offered one of the production’s greatest musical pleasures.” (The Sondheim Review)

As a young artist, Mr. Loyd apprenticed with Chautauqua Opera, Sarasota Opera, and Lake George Opera performing mainstage roles and cover assignments that included GERMONT and BARON DOUPHOL in La Traviata, FALSTAFF in Falstaff, MORALES in Carmen, PETER in Hansel and Gretel, and MILLER in Verdi’s Luisa Miller.
